Podcasts

I’ve been a podcast zealot since 2009, when a friend introduced me to what was then called Comedy Death-Ray Radio. The following year, I spear-headed the inclusion of “best podcasts” in The A.V. Club’s year-end wrap-up, and in January 2011, I created Podmass, a weekly podcast-review feature that was the first of its kind. (It was immediately the most controversial part of the site.) Podcasts have been part of my development work since, and they became my focus when I joined Exactly Right Media in 2022.

I am a huge believer in this medium. (And I still listen to what’s now called Comedy Bang! Bang! more than 800 episodes later.) Here are shows that I developed and/or produced.

The Butterfly King: A WWII Mystery

When King Boris III of Bulgaria dies amid mysterious circumstances during World War II, there's no shortage of suspects. But eighty years later, his death remains unsolved. Award-winning journalist Becky Milligan follows a trail of dissidents, poisoners, soldiers and spies to unravel 80 years of lies and cover-ups. This tragic family saga of a doomed royal dynasty is a story of treachery, deceit and a quest for the truth. Who killed the Butterfly King?

I developed and produced the series, which we co-produced with the incredible team at Blanchard House.

Infamous International: The Pink Panthers Story

The Pink Panthers are the world’s most notorious jewel thieves, a shadowy Serbian crime syndicate who specialize in elaborate smash-and-grab heists that take only minutes, but net millions. They strike ultra-exclusive jewelry stores in places like Dubai, London and Monaco, using brute force and cinematic flair that make headlines and “most wanted” lists.

I developed and produced the series, which we co-produced with Best Case Studios.

Tenfold More Wicked:
Season 12

The 12th and final season of Tenfold More Wicked may be Kate Winkler Dawson’s most ambitious yet. It debuts soon.

Tenfold More Wicked:
Fire and Brimstone

This is “Fire and Brimstone,” the 11th season of Tenfold More Wicked, our oldest story yet. This time we’re traveling to colonial Rhode Island in 1673. This story came from a longtime Tenfold More Wicked listener and distant relative of the victim. Believe it or not, this case is still local lore for residents of the area.

I worked as consulting producer, assisting with scripting, fact-checking, and general producing.

Tenfold More Wicked: Entitled

“Entitled” is the 10th season of Tenfold More Wicked. It’s a historical true crime story that meets a political scandal in the colony of Virginia, ten years before the Revolutionary War. “Entitled” is about the deaths of three men in the 18th century, how they changed history and about protecting the wealthy and the powerful.

I worked as consulting producer, assisting with scripting, fact-checking, and general producing.

Tenfold More Wicked:
The Wolf Among Us

The ninth season of Tenfold More Wicked is called “The Wolf Among Us.” It’s a historical true crime story about a man who used his religion to cloak his sinister side, and the two women in his life who both suffered because of it. It’s also about a brand-new machine that helped catch a killer.

Tenfold More Wicked is Kate Winkler Dawson’s long-running historical true-crime series. Kate is a true-crime historian, journalism professor at the University of Texas, and an absolute force of nature. I served as consulting producer on the later seasons, assisting with scripting, fact-checking, and general producing.

The Butterfly King is a masterclass in suspenseful sleuthing and creative storytelling... As well as a compelling whodunnit, the series is a fascinating meditation on the grey area between good and evil.”
