(NOVEMBER 22, 2019 - LAS VEGAS) After a year that saw Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival host its biggest-ever event in Las Vegas this past May, the question was simple: How could founders Mark and Shawn Stern top it in 2020?

With a culmination. After years of behind-the-scenes work, Madness and Circle Jerks will make their PRB Vegas debuts next Memorial Day weekend, along with a slew of reunions and rare performances by the likes of The Epoxies, Lunachicks, Rose Tattoo, Bishops Green, and The Ruts.

Also making their PRB Vegas debuts are Streetlight Manifesto, Propagandhi, and AVAIL.

It’s all part of Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival’s mission to bring fans something different from the overcrowded, under-attentive festivals currently crowding the country with samey lineups. “We strive to just bring bands that don’t tour constantly,” says PRB co-founder Mark Stern. “It’s a lot different than other festivals.”

Looking at the lineup for the music festival, which runs Saturday through Monday, it’s to agree. Good Riddance. The Bronx. GBH. Municipal Waste. Roy Ellis. Stiff Little Fingers. The Explosion. Aggrolites. A mix of still-active legacy acts and bands setting the current standard for punk rock has always been PRB Vegas’ forte, and 2020 finds the festival nailing that balance more than ever.

But people who know PRB know a lot more happens besides the music festival. There’s the bowling tournament, poker tournament, comedy shows, after-parties, and pool parties. And they’re all close by.

“Once you get into Vegas and get downtown, you never leave,” Stern says. “All of our venues are within walking distance. You walk out, your hotel’s right next door to the venue. You can walk two blocks and walk into the after-parties, pool parties, comedy shows. Everything is right there.”

Back at the music festival, the second stage that debuted in 2019 will return for 2020, but bigger and with better sound. Organizers have added five-minute set changes between performances on the stages to allow people time to hit the bathroom or grab a beer without missing music. Speaking of beer, there will be a new craft beer garden by the second stage. Also new this year: re-entry for VIP ticket holders, as well as a limited amount of private VIP cabanas that have their own waitstaff and second-floor viewing area.

Those are perks for people who want to lay out the cash, but Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival is designed for everybody.  Capacity is limited to keep things comfortable and make it easy to see the bands. Drinks are cheaper at the festival than they are at the casino.

“When I go to a show, I want to feel like I'm part of it,” says Stern, who has gone to a lot of shows as a member of seminal punk band Youth Brigade and co-founder of iconic punk label BYO Records. “I don't want to feel like I’m at a meat market, standing in line, and you can't really see the band. We want to keep it intimate, where you're at a festival but it feels like you could see the band from anywhere. We want everyone to come.”

With three-day passes on sale now, they can. General admission three-day passes start at $175 and come with a presale access code that allows purchasers first dibs on tickets for up to three afterparties. (Afterparty tickets go on sale DATE.) VIP three-day passes start at $350. All tickets can be purchased at punkrockbowling.com.
